Before looking at the auction results, let’s look at trends for some of the most popular equipment types selling in July and August, along with our new ag equipment news segment, “Trends in 10,” featuring Andy Campbell, Tractor Zoom’s Director of Insights.
Ag equipment market trends for July/August 2024: “Trends in 10”
The ag equipment market continues to experience a downward shift in prices due to an oversupply of high-use equipment, creating a buyer’s market. Most equipment types are following a similar trend line, though others are a bit more volatile.
Tractor Zoom’s Director of Insights, Andy Campbell, surveys the current equipment market in a few top categories, including row crop tractors, combines, headers, and sprayers.
Here are some key takeaways from this “Trends in 10” market report:
The equipment market is experiencing changes due to factors like layoffs in manufacturers and lower-than-expected earnings.
Class 8 combines, particularly John Deere S780s, have seen a drop in value, with a 6% decrease in June and July.
Row crop tractors, especially John Deere 8Rs, are also experiencing a decline in value, with a 6-9% decrease annually.
Self-propelled sprayers have been volatile, with John Deere models seeing a 14-19% drop in value.
Orders for planters are expected to decrease, as farmers are opting for retrofitting and upgrading existing equipment.
The adoption of technology in the equipment market is influencing values and supply.
